Fire & Water - Cleanup & Restoration

Post-Flooding Cleanup for This St Petersburg Dental Office

When people think of flood damage to homes and businesses throughout our coastal community, high volumes of standing water and the respective damage come to mind. As challenging as extraction can be for even experienced restorers like our SERVPRO of NE St. Petersburg team, debris and muck-out cleaning can also be a top priority and substantial hurdle in returning a property to its original condition. This dental office would be no exception. The customer suffered water damage and secondary effects from a destructive tropical storm passing through the area.

Hundreds of properties throughout the city would suffer similar damage to what you can see in the Before Photo. Even with the water receding from the structure, debris and silt from the rising natural floodwater get deposited in the impacted areas of the facility. Because the office had tile flooring, these structural elements could resist saturation and absorption of standing water, doing the greatest damage to overcome the cleaning of debris and solids brought in by the flooding.

The Before Photo shows that multiple rooms were affected by the layer of water spreading through the building. Our NE ST. Petersburg SERVPRO professionals begin the cleanup and mitigation of this damage by assessing the structure for pressing concerns. Saturated materials like the wood trim would need to be removed and later replaced, as you can see in the After Photo. Because the water receded quickly after overwhelming the structure, related materials like the drywall were not damaged by these conditions.

We have multiple tools and equipment for cleaning tile floors to restore their original finish and appearance after the dulling effects of dirt and mud. Sometimes the simplest tools are the best for the job, though, and much of the process would be completed with a combination of cleaning products, mops, wet vacuums, and similar items. With the tile cleaned and the trim removed, our SERVPRO of NE St. Petersburg team could focus on the necessary steps to dry the property and ensure that secondary effects like mold growth did not start. Surfaces exposed to water were treated with an antimicrobial spray that inhibited mold growth.

As you can see in the After Photo, the placement of centrifugal air movers was deliberate, targeting areas that could have otherwise become greater issues like the base of the drywall throughout the main damaged hallway. These low-profile units can force warm air against damp surfaces to ensure that the relative humidity reaches the desired levels as quickly as possible. While this structure did not lose power, as you can see by our use of available electricity for our drying units, we often supply portable power after flooding to structures with trailered generators and spider boxes.
